On Friday, December 10 at approximately 1624, the Essex Junction Fire Department was dispatched to respond mutual aid to Horseshoe Drive in the Town of Williston on the second alarm for a structure fire.

Ladder 3 responded and arrived, being directed to abandon the apparatus and proceed to the residence for fire attack duties. While proceeding to the residence, personnel observed a large two story wood frame single family dwelling with significant fire conditions throughout more than 50% of the structure on both floors. The five personnel from Ladder 3 split up with the operator assisting with water supply, two personnel performing fire attack on the Alpha side of the building and two personnel performing fire attack on the Delta side of the building.

EJFD personnel worked for approximately two hours on fire attack alongside firefighters from surrounding communities. Unfortunately the fire could not be stopped from consuming most of the structure and it is considered a total loss. Once the bulk of the fire was knocked down, Williston's Ladder 4 was utilized for a master stream to reach areas of fire that were unsafe for firefighters to access. Operations then switched to an overhaul mode.

After approximately four hours on scene, EJFD Engine 7 and Car 9 proceeded to the scene in order to swap out fresh EJFD personnel for continued overhaul. These personnel operated on the scene for another two hours before being released by command.
