Capabilities
Command Vehicle: This will serve as the Essex Junction Fire Department's Mobile Command post freeing up Car 9 for First Response and Utility needs. In FY2026 the department responded to 34 second-call incidents, where the department was handling multiple calls at the same time. Often these are Fire and First Response at different addresses.

Car 1 will be a take home vehicle for the Chief of the Department or the on Duty Officer and will be at their residence within the City. This will allow for direct response to any incidents without the normal delay of response to the Station to get Car 9. Early incident command allows for the Scene Commander to develop the situation to better direct resources for the emergency. This includes determining the call's actual nature, determining if anyone is trapped in a fire or car accident, determining additional resources that may be needed, or reducing response when no emergency is found.

Currently Car 9 fills three roles within the Essex Junction Fire Department. It is set up as a Command Vehicle for the responding Chief or Captain to take as the Command Vehicle for calls. It is the First Response Vehicle hosting the Fire Department's Advanced EMS Equipment. Lastly, it is the only utility vehicle for the Department to move equipment, perform administrative tasks and complete additional tasks.
