Engine 21 Responds to South Burlington Barn Fire
At 8:01pm on Wednesday, February 18th 2015, the Essex Junction Fire Department was requested to respond mutual aid with an engine to the City of South Burlington to 104 Ethan Allen Drive for a barn fire. South Burlington Fire Department as well as the Vermont Air National Guard Fire Department arrived on the scene to find a fully involved barn spreading to nearby barns and immediately requested mutual aid from Burlington, Williston, Colchester Center, Shelburne, Essex and Essex Junction.
Utility 61 and Engine 21 responded with a total of 8 personnel. Upon arrival on the scene crews staged for a few minutes before relieving a crew on a hose line at the heavily involved barn. The members of EJFD operated on scene for over four hours completing various tasks such as fire extinguishment, overhaul, salvage, assisting the farm owner with moving cattle and racking up hose lines.
All units from EJFD were back in the station and in service by 12:15am. A quick response by the VTANG Fire Department as well as the South Burlington Fire Department ensured the quick attack of the fire, preventing the fire from consuming the four other barns on the property. Two other nearby barns were damaged, one heavily. Under 30 cattle were lost in the blaze.
