South Street Lane Structure Fire | 2nd Fird in 5 days
At 01:35 hrs, the Essex Junction and Essex Fire Departments were dispatched along with Essex Rescue to 1 South Street Lane for a garage on fire.
Utility 61 responded and arrived on scene to find a two story wood frame garage with fire showing from the rear and side of the building. Engine 5 arrived shortly after, laid out from the hydrant, established their own water supply and stretched an attack line to the building. The crew first briefly knocked down visible fire on the exterior of the building and then proceeded up the stairs to the second floor, where they were met with near zero visibility and active fire along the ceiling. Personnel worked on knocking the fire on the interior while the crew from 15 Engine 1 laddered the roof and completed the vertical vent. Personnel from 8 Engine 21 stretched a second attack line to the rear of the building and began overhauling the area.
Crews worked for roughly an hour and a half performing overhaul to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. One homeowner was evaluated by Essex Rescue on scene for unknown injuries. No fire personnel were injured and the Essex Junction Fire Department was fully back in service at 03:50 hrs. The cause of the fire is under investigation at this time.
