Mutual Aid - Vehicle Accident w/ Entrapment - Browns River Road

On July 19th, at 2357, EJFD was Dispatched to the area of 43 Browns River Road for mutual aid for a rollover crash with entrapment. A responding Essex Town Fire Officer requested an Essex Junction fire, and the Essex Dispatcher gave an update of confirmed entrapment and reported that the vehicle was smoking.

Essex Junction Fire responded with Engine 5 and a Fire Police Officer to assist with traffic control on the scene. When Engine 5 arrived on the scene, the crew reported to command and was tasked with stabilizing the vehicle and gaining access to its interior. EJFD Crews used stabilization jacks and chains to stabilize the car, which had come to rest on its side. Once the vehicle was stabilized, EJFD members gained access through the rear of the car to remove an injured dog. Once the vehicle was stable and the dog was removed, EJFD assisted EFD crews with full roof removal and disentanglement of the patient. The patient was alert and talking throughout the removal. Because of this and the severe damage to the vehicle, extrication was a very deliberate process and took just over 20 minutes.

Once the patient was removed, EJFD personnel were assigned to clean up glass and debris in the roadway. EJFD cleared the scene at 00:55.
