Dryer and Wall Fire Brickyard Condos
At 2127 Essex Junction Fire was dispatched to 34 Brickyard, Unit 1 for a report of fire in an outlet.
8U61 and Assistant Chief Weed arrived on scene to find nothing showing from the exterior of the structure. Home owner reported a fire in the wall by the dryer. Said there was smoke upstairs.
Engine 5 arrived on scene and the driver reported he could see smoke between the shades and the window in the upstairs of the residence. Engines 5's crew made entry into the building. Finding no smoke on the first floor of the residence the crew proceeded to the second floor. Half way up the stairs the crew found heavier smoke and went on air. Crews found the wash closet were the dryer was located showed had high amounts of heat on the thermal imaging camera. When the crew moved the dryer the fire kicked up along the back of the dryer and along the base board of the wall. Crews used a fire extinguisher to knock down the visible fire. Crews then opened up the wall finding more fire in the wall. Engine's 5 crew extinguished the fire. and requested ventilation while they did overhaul.
Ladder 3 arrived on scene and took over the ventilation assignment. Using positive pressure the crews vented the smoke from the second floor bedroom window. Essex Junction Fire got documentation and statements from the homeowner while crews finished overhauling the fire. All apparatus went back in service at 2230.
Essex Junction Fire had 3 Apparatus and 12 firefighters respond to the scene with other firefighters staffing engine 21 and the station during the call. All crews were released at 2300.
