Pearl Street - Apartment Fire
On the morning of January 23rd at 7:07 am, the Essex Junction Fire Department was dispatched to 30 Pearl Street for a smoke detector going off, smoke in an apartment, and a resident unaccounted for. Essex Fire and Essex Rescue were dispatched automatic mutual aid for the call.
While responding, Lieutenant AJ Leclair requested an additional dispatch for Williston Fire with a ladder and St Michael's Fire with an engine.
Engine 7 arrived on the scene with smoke coming from a second-story window. Crews pulled a handline and made entry. Upon entry, the crew found a cooking fire that the resident had attempted to extinguish, and they quickly dealt with the remaining hazard. Our crew and the crew from Williston Fire conducted a search of the affected apartment, finding no residents in the apartment. It was determined the resident left the apartment before other residents heard the alarm and called in the emergency.
Crews were on the scene for just over an hour.
We want to thank our mutual aid partners who assisted on today's call. Their assistance is always appreciated! We also want to thank one of our off-duty Essex Jct Fire Officers, who was in the area on his way to work and stopped to help establish the water supply to a hydrant before quickly hopping back in his car and heading off to work.
